Abstract:
Most faculty are comfortable with teaching the way they were taught, using lecture and powerpoint slides for content delivery. With the rapid growth in online delivery of nursing education, faculty are challenged to create more effective teaching tools for course instruction.  Learners of today are looking for engaging presentations and expect faculty to utilize video teaching formats.Camtasia offers an inexpensive and innovative software product for the creation of video content.

Using Camtasia software requires a short learning curve, and faculty can quickly produce videos for content delivery. Rather than just telling students how to do something, faculty can easily create and edit screen capture, video, and powerpoint lectures into a professional video format.  For online learners, Camtasia can be used to demonstrate practice skills, capture lectures, interview knowledge experts, and to teach use of other online tools (i.e. how to search a database, data analysis, use of the online learning classroom tools).

Recent studies have shown that there are numerous benefits to using streaming video in higher education, both for online as well as face-to-face instruction.  A growing number of on-campus faculty are also using this type of online teaching tool to develop course materials for a flipped-classroom environment, in which students review materials such as lectures and videos prior to coming to class for application activities.
