Abstract:
The 2012 Population focused competencies included revised competencies for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) education.  This revision included core competencies that were based on both the Master's and doctoral Essentials for graduate education, Quality and Safety Competencies and Genomics competencies for the Graduate NP.  Suggested content topics were included in these revised competencies.  Integration of all of these documents has been challenging for many PMHNP programs across the country.  The panel for this Workshop includes 3 members of the Psychiatric Mental health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Competencies task force as well as faculty teaching in these programs.  The focus of this workshop will be how to integrate all of the competencies and Essentials into the PMHNP curriculum with discussion of topic areas.  A description of three nationally known programs and how they integrated these competencies into their programs will be discussed. Topics will include concepts of therapy, chronic medical co-morbities, neurobiology, and child content.  The facilitators will engage the participants into a discussion of ways to integrate the PMHNP competencies and Essentials into their curriculum as well as ways to evaluate students.
