Abstract:
Implementation of the APRN Consensus Model places increased emphasis on nurse practitioners working within the scope of practice in which they were educated.  As a result several groups of primary care prepared providers find themselves working outside their scope.  Several health care systems are requiring their nurse practitioner employees who manage acutely ill patients to become prepared as acute care nurse practitioners.  This decision creates the need for an innovative approach to providing sufficient education to practicing nurse practitioners without much disruption in patient care.  This poster provides a description of the innovative approach taken by one university-based school of nursing.
