Abstract:
Knowles theory of andragogy states that adult learners are more interested in learning material that supports the job they will perform or that which will enhance personal development.  With this thought in mind, the question arises "Do students who are registered nurses and have completed an undergraduate assessment course anticipate that they will learn new skills in a masters level assessment course and do they anticipate that those skills will be useful in their future practice?  Students who are currently enrolled in an Advanced Health Assessment course have been instructed to participate in a 2 day assessment skills boot camp.  The content of this boot camp will be presented by professionals who practice in the content area with the goal of mastery desired skill. Knowles theory will be tested when an 11 question survey is given to all students who are registered nurses and are currently enrolled in the graduate level health assessment course give their answers before attendance of the boot camp.  These same students will then attend the two day advanced health assessment skills boot camp.  Once the Boot camp has been completed, the participants will then be given a post survey.  At the time of completion of the boot camp, the desired outcome will be that students feel not only have they learned new advanced skills, but also that they feel confident in using those skills.
