Abstract:
Professional schools often extol their reputation, ranking, and faculty when recruiting.  Practice disciplines also typically describe the accomplishments and experience of faculty members.  Professional nursing practice covers a range of activities from direct patient care through administration and everything in between.   Faculty practice is often described in terms of patient care activities, e.g. a nurse-managed healthcare center.  Using a broader definition of nursing practice, we can include a variety of practice opportunities for the faculty.   During the current environment of healthcare reform and transitioning graduate programs to a doctoral level, nursing faculty are well placed to seize an opportunity for faculty practice.  Examples of faculty practices beyond traditional primary care delivery will be explored.
