Abstract:
A strong educational assessment plan and commitment to improving student learning is an essential element of the teaching and learning process.  With the exponential growth of Doctor in Nursing Practice (DNP) programs over the last decade, there must be an emphasis on monitoring individual and aggregate student-centered learning outcomes through a robust assessment process.  The assessment process including the measurement of student performance and competence, through a comprehensive evaluation plan to assure program quality and improvement will be illustrated.  A multi-level assessment plan that links directly to the curriculum design will be presented. The assessment plan includes specific expected student-centered course and program level outcomes. Formative and summative outcome evaluation strategies including competency-based clinical and complex case study assessment. Strategies also include evidenced-based practice improvement project conceptualization, implementation, and presentation  assessment, competency-based portfolio assessment, and longitudinal DNP alumni follow-up will be described. This project reflects a component of the work of a HRSA funded DNP program enhancement.
