Transgender Cultural Competencies for the Advanced Practice Nurse

This presentation will discuss, identify, and explicate the cultural competencies of the transgender community with hopes to expand awareness of this populations specific healthcare needs for Advanced Practice Nurses.  Topics addressed include: common myths and misconceptions regarding the transgender population; a transgender terminology review to familiarize attendees to be able to correctly address this population; recommendations of how to make an inclusive practice that is sensitive to the unique needs of the transgender population; medication/hormone replacement management for transgender patients; and a list of possible surgical options for transgender patients.  Open discussion will follow.
