Abstract:
Identifying age-appropriate screening tools for common mental health disorders and implementing systematic annual screening within primary care settings can facilitate early detection, early intervention and treatment across the lifespan. This presentation summarizes mental health screening tools for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations appropriate for primary care settings. Information on indications for use, sensitivity, specificity, time of administration, scoring, and cost or public domain is included. Pediatric screens include anxiety, depression, ADHD, and autism. Adolescent screens included anxiety, depression, substance use, and eating disorders. Adult screens include anxiety, depression, postpartum depression, substance use, and intimate partner violence. Geriatric screens include depression and cognitive function. Recommendations for intervention within primary care and indications for referral to mental health specialists are included.
