Abstract:
The Objective Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE) is one common method used to evaluate student clinical performance. There is a plethora of research supportive of the evaluative use of OSCEs, however, the intersection of computerized virtual patients and OSCEs has not been extensively developed. Nurse Educators are competent in the creation of clinical scenarios for use as teaching strategies and structured evaluations in the lab. However, many nurse faculty members have limited expertise in the development of web-based programs. As advanced practice education transitions to more online formats, clinical faculty need to build skills and competencies in the creation of online clinical evaluation.

The purpose of this presentation is to describe the development of an online standardized clinical scenario using a web-based platform. The process of project development will be described including identification of stakeholders, obtaining institutional support, and project team assembly. The formations of inter and intra collaboration with an instructional designer, e-learning specialist, and evaluation consultant will be emphasized. The tools used for the creation of a web-based simulation will be shared with participants.
