Abstract:
New and innovative teaching strategies are a welcomed addition to the graduate classroom. Implementation of such strategies can be an altogether different experience. During this session, participants will gain a greater understanding of all that is involved with the decision to "flip" their classroom. The session is focused on providing the lived experience of flipping the classroom in a diagnosis and management course within a family nurse practitioner program. Audience members will be able to learn some valuable lessons from the presenters' experiences, and walk away with a firm plan to prepare themselves and their students for the flipped classroom experience. The presenters will share some teaching strategies during class hours that were successful and some that faculty may want to avoid implementing. Student satisfaction and student outcomes associated with flipping the classroom will also be discussed. The session will also include a time of discussion, question/answer, and sharing of ideas regarding the flipped classroom.
