Abstract:
On-line courses begin much like in class courses, with student and faculty introductions. Furthermore, students need to know what is expected of them and in return what they can expect from their on-line Professors. Rubrics are important for fair student evaluations. In order for students to be successful, support systems are essential. However, students need to know where to go and what is available. Course objectives and outcomes must align with course deliverables. These are premises that underlie the Quality Matters program. This presentation will use course examples from the experience of incorporating the QM program to improve an online NP curriculum with specific examples and lessons learned. This presentation will “surf” participants from the start of an on-line course to the end with exemplars along the way. The importance of a well-designed on-line course that will include valuable information for student success will be showcased. Additionally, examples of a not so well-designed on-line course will be presented.
